Nancy Bender changed my life. Golf is fun again. Various golf schools, instructional books, magazines, and tips from playing partners had taken me to a point where I could barely make contact with the ball. My handicap was 17 and going up. I started taking lessons from Nancy almost six years ago. My most recent handicap index is 4.6.

Golf and especially golf lessons can often be a grind. In an attempt to improve, the lesson itself can become a frustrating exercise in futility. This is not the case with Nancy Bender’s unique approach to teaching.

Nancy’s attention to detail enables her to spot the swing flaw immediately. Gifted in golf analysis, Nancy has what I call ‘second sight’ or intuition about how the game is played. I am always amazed when she makes a small adjustment to my swing but the results are powerful. She has the ability to communicate the message to a student using appropriate metaphors and analogies.

I met Nancy Bender 6 years ago when I decided to take up golf after I
retired. Needless to say, I was very skeptical of my ability to play. I
found Nancy to be a patient, skilled, knowledgeable and compassionate
instructor. It is no wonder that she has made a name for herself in the
golf community here and nationally. She truly deserves all the awards, accolades and
acknowledgements that she has received. The Valparaiso Parks Department, as
well as all of us who know Nancy respect her,and are very fortunate to have her
in our lives. |

Nancy has taught me so much through her private lessons and weekly clinics.
There is no such thing as a “rerun” in her instructional method. I am
constantly coming away with something new. She has improved my game by
gearing techniques and methodology for my specific needs. I don’t think I
could be as comfortable with another instructor as I am with her. Because
of Nancy Bender, I am happily addicted to golf. |

Golf…The greatest game in the world. I have been an athlete my whole life specifically hockey and baseball. I learned the meaning of practice while playing in a Division 1 College Hockey program. The more you practice, the better you will perform on the field of battle. |

I started playing golf as a young boy and did not really understand the meaning but I could hit the ball and scramble around decently with score’s of high eighty’s and ninety’s; not bad for a twelve year old. |

After breaking my back playing hockey in college, I didn’t take golf seriously until approximately ten years ago where I continued to be the athlete playing golf. With discipline and drive (pun intended), I was able to work myself down to an 11 handicap. However, every time on the course was an adventure of unpredictability. A couple years ago, I brought my girlfriend, Mary’s, ten and twelve-year old boys to Ms. Bender for lessons. It was then that I saw her patience and understanding of not only the game of golf, but of people. I was book taught and never had a lesson. I was starting to get serious about golf and my girlfriend, Mary, gave me lessons with Nancy as a birthday gift. |

Golf lessons with Nancy took my game to a new level, I highly recommend lessons with Nancy along with practicing the skills she teaches. She took my abilities and my bad back into consideration and rearranged the way I approached the game of golf physically and mentally. She video taped my swing and showed me what I looked like… not how I thought I looked. We changed a few things and I started practicing. I am now a 5 handicap, the president of the men’s club at my golf course and a weekly captain. I love the game more then I ever thought I could thanks to Nancy Bender for her direction and Mary for understanding my passion for golf. |
